Community Energy Explorer

UX design / UI design / ongoing development (beta)

Academic thought feeds the world of ideas, but they are often burried in a 400+ page text document.

In this project, I worked with a team at UBC to take a complex document on community energy and visualize if for the web. I worked with academics with a broad range of skills to show the potential for community energy in Metro Vancouver on the web.

methods

Team design charettes, sketching, storyboarding, wireframing, full mockups, WordPress blogs.

technology

CSS & SVG animations, AJAX & PHP, MapBox, Parallax animation.

Sustainability Dashboard

concept / ux & ui design / front end and backend development

insight

Policy documents are not often read by City staff or the public.

Working with the sustainability team, I conceptualised a unique dashboard to better display efforts towards a more sustainable city. The navigation uses AJAX calls to regenerate URLs and a simple navigation-based backend allows the team to preform updates to text, charts and maps intuitively.

methods

Research, sketching, storyboarding & UI mockups.

technology

Desktop web app development using AJAX & PHP, Jquery, 'COSMOS' map integration, custom CMS.

Seth Rolland Custom Furniture

concept / ux & ui design, WordPress

insight

Creating a new platform for furniture designer Seth Rolland meant making a responsive website that he could help design and easily administer (thank you ACF).

I vectorized a few shop sketches and cleaned up photography aspect ratios to fit a grid. We used a grid algorythm to ensure that 2:3 and 3:2 images are always paired.

methods

Concept development, sketching, storyboarding, wireframing & mockups.

technology

Parallax intro animation, 3d model rendered video in browser, Javascript.
